The first: “New Acquisitions, 2020-2025” will be on display until the end of March 2026, showing a variety of newly acquired materials in a range of topics, ages, and formats. Ranging from artist’s books by university alumnus Emiland Kray to 17th century Judaica to records of the Burrus Student Mine, this exhibit demonstrates that SCUA’s collections really do have something for everyone - students, faculty, staff and community members, alumni and friends.

In the latter half of the Spring 2026 semester, SCUA will open “Sagebrush Scribblers,” an exhibit about the editorial cartoons found in the Sagebrush student newspaper over the decades of its existence. All SCUA exhibits can be found throughout the third floor of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. A list of past exhibits is available on the department website.

Irrigation 101: Introduction to Small-Scale Irrigation

Join us for an engaging online course designed to introduce the fundamentals of small-scale irrigation. Whether you are new to gardening or looking to strengthen your irrigation knowledge, this course is a great place to start.

This course is part of the Master Irrigator Program and serves as the required foundational class.
To earn the Master Irrigator certification, participants must begin with Irrigation 101, then complete the Drip and Sprinkler courses (A total of 3 courses to qualify for master irrigator certification).

Register once to attend all sessions. This course consists of 4 online sessions.

April 6 & 9 and 13 & 16, 2026 (Monday and thursday each week)

Sound of the Gods is a multidisciplinary project that examines how the Gwoza people in the Northern part of Nigeria use sound, chants, and drumming as sacred tools for communication with spiritual forces and ancestral realms.

Jerry David will give an artist lecture will take place on April 9 from 5-6pm in Schulich Lecture Hall #1. A reception will follow from 6-8pm.

This interactive workshop will explore a wide range of IPM topics for Nevada's specialty crop, hay and forage producers, including plant and soil health; insect and vertebrate pests; weed management; and other practical strategies for organic production systems.

The session will begin with an overview from our speakers on their areas of expertise and the most important principles to know when managing pests organically. Participants will then hear a series of brief 15-minute presentations from three to four speakers covering real-world approaches, challenges and solutions.

The remainder of the workshop will be an open discussion and Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to share their own experiences, successes, challenges and questions. Whether you are looking for advice on a specific issue or want to learn from others working in the field, this workshop is designed to encourage conversation and problem-solving.

The workshop will be recorded and shared afterward for those who cannot attend live. Participants are welcome to join at any time during the session if they are unable to attend the full workshop.

Do you have a passion for LEGOs, science and engineering?

Explore with the North Las Vegas 4-H Bluebirds Community Club where youth will take part in fun activities and projects related to science and engineering with LEGOs!

4-H focuses on Positive Youth Development and engaging students in activities that promote teamwork, public speaking, problem solving, fun, and friendship! This series is open to all youth ages 8 to 19 (ages 5 to 8 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian). Join us for any of our sessions, all are welcome and no 4-H experience is necessary.

Club meetings are free but registration is required. Parents and guardians are highly encouraged and welcome to stay during meetings!

Rocío Aranda-Alvarado is an art historian and curator. She joined Ford Foundation in 2018 after serving as curator at El Museo del Barrio for nearly a decade. At Ford, she is a Senior Program Officer on the Creativity and Free Expression team, focusing on support for arts and culture organizations across the U.S. At El Museo, she presented visual arts and programming that reflected the history and culture of El Barrio as well as the greater US Latinx and Latin American diaspora. She organized exhibitions featuring emerging and established artists, including Presente! The Young Lords in New York, and Museum Starter Kit, for El Museo’s 45th anniversary and several versions of El Museo’s biennial. From 2000 to 2009, she was curator at the Jersey City Museum, where she organized solo exhibitions of Chakaia Booker and Raphael Montañez Ortiz and many group exhibitions. Rocío has lectured as an adjunct professor; consulted and curated independently on Latinx and Latin American art and culture; and published and advised, in both a scholarly and curatorial capacity, at various institutions. She earned her PhD in art history from the Graduate Center, City University of New York.

The Early Childhood Workforce Training is offered to early childhood providers for the purpose of meeting the annual Nevada State Early Childhood training requirements. Employees must complete a minimum of 24 hours of training annually to continue employment in a licensed childcare center or home care.

The first: “New Acquisitions, 2020-2025” will be on display until the end of March 2026, showing a variety of newly acquired materials in a range of topics, ages, and formats. Ranging from artist’s books by university alumnus Emiland Kray to 17th century Judaica to records of the Burrus Student Mine, this exhibit demonstrates that SCUA’s collections really do have something for everyone - students, faculty, staff and community members, alumni and friends.

In the latter half of the Spring 2026 semester, SCUA will open “Sagebrush Scribblers,” an exhibit about the editorial cartoons found in the Sagebrush student newspaper over the decades of its existence. All SCUA exhibits can be found throughout the third floor of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. A list of past exhibits is available on the department website.

Irrigation 101: Introduction to Small-Scale Irrigation

Join us for an engaging online course designed to introduce the fundamentals of small-scale irrigation. Whether you are new to gardening or looking to strengthen your irrigation knowledge, this course is a great place to start.

This course is part of the Master Irrigator Program and serves as the required foundational class.
To earn the Master Irrigator certification, participants must begin with Irrigation 101, then complete the Drip and Sprinkler courses (A total of 3 courses to qualify for master irrigator certification).

This five-part series is designed to help individuals and healthcare practitioners critically examine diet culture, weight stigma, and harmful weight-based health practices. Participants will learn the historical and social roots of diet culture, including how racism, sexism, and classism shaped weight stigma, and why anti-fatness must be understood as a social justice issue that disproportionately harms marginalized individuals. The series highlights how diet culture and weight stigma are major drivers of disordered eating and eating disorders.

By critically examining and unpacking these harmful systems, participants will gain tools to disrupt weight-based stigma, promote inclusive care, and foster healing, while decreasing the risk of causing unintentional harm. Participants will gain knowledge and resources to improve their personal relationship with food and body image. Healthcare providers will be better equipped to deliver non-stigmatizing, weight-inclusive, and socially just care.

Learning Objectives:

Define weight stigma and recognize it as social justice issues that disproportionately harm marginalized individuals.

Explain how weight stigma and diet culture contribute to disordered eating and eating disorders, poor health outcomes and increased risk of mortality.

Critically evaluate the scientific literature on dieting, BMI, and weight-based approaches to health.

Explore and apply safer, effective approaches and philosophies regarding nutrition and wellness, including Intuitive Eating, Body Liberation, and Health at Every Size®.

Description

This 3-hour continuing education workshop is designed for behavioral health and medical professionals seeking to strengthen their ability to identify and treat gambling-related problems. The training reviews current diagnostic guidelines for gambling disorder, including DSM-5-TR criteria, severity specifiers, and common comorbidities. Participants will examine prevalence rates and epidemiological trends in problem and disordered gambling, including emerging issues related to online gambling and sports betting, with attention to high-risk and underserved populations.

The workshop emphasizes practical, evidence-based clinical skills, including validated screening and assessment tools and empirically supported treatment approaches. Attendees will learn strategies for integrating gambling disorder screening, diagnosis, and treatment planning into routine clinical practice across settings.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this continuing education activity, participants will be able to:

Describe DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria and differential diagnostic considerations for gambling disorder.

Summarize current prevalence rates and epidemiological trends in problem and disordered gambling in the United States.

Identify key risk factors associated with the development of gambling-related problems.

Select validated screening and assessment tools for identifying problem gambling in clinical settings.

Staff Sergeant Romesha was awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary heroism during the 2009 Battle of Combat Outpost Keating in Afghanistan, where his decisive leadership, courage under fire and selfless actions saved lives and helped repel an overwhelming enemy attack. His story exemplifies resilience, service and leadership in the face of extreme adversity.

The first: “New Acquisitions, 2020-2025” will be on display until the end of March 2026, showing a variety of newly acquired materials in a range of topics, ages, and formats. Ranging from artist’s books by university alumnus Emiland Kray to 17th century Judaica to records of the Burrus Student Mine, this exhibit demonstrates that SCUA’s collections really do have something for everyone - students, faculty, staff and community members, alumni and friends.

In the latter half of the Spring 2026 semester, SCUA will open “Sagebrush Scribblers,” an exhibit about the editorial cartoons found in the Sagebrush student newspaper over the decades of its existence. All SCUA exhibits can be found throughout the third floor of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. A list of past exhibits is available on the department website.

Dr. Linden is the chair of the Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering Department at Colorado Boulder. His research investigates novel UV-based systems for public health protection in water and air with a focus on advanced and innovative UV systems for inactivation of pathogens and degradation of organic and other emerging contaminants in water and wastewater and sustainable implementation of water and sanitation technologies in low-resource settings. Dr. Linden is a consultant to the World Health Organization for revising the Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality and a member of the WHO Water Quality Technical Advisory Group. He served as 2013-2015 president of the International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA), and 2019-2020 president of the Association of
Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP).

This course is part of the Master Irrigator Program. Participants must complete Irrigation 101 (starting April 6) prior to enrolling if they wish to pursue the Master Irrigator certification. To earn the certification, participants must complete all three courses: Irrigation 101, Drip Irrigation, and Sprinkler Irrigation.

Dr. Linden is the chair of the Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering Department at Colorado Boulder. His research investigates novel UV-based systems for public health protection in water and air with a focus on advanced and innovative UV systems for inactivation of pathogens and degradation of organic and other emerging contaminants in water and wastewater and sustainable implementation of water and sanitation technologies in low-resource settings. Dr. Linden is a consultant to the World Health Organization for revising the Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality and a member of the WHO Water Quality Technical Advisory Group. He served as 2013-2015 president of the International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA), and 2019-2020 president of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP).

Join us for an engaging course focused on the design, installation and management of drip irrigation systems. Whether you are new to irrigation or looking to improve efficiency in your garden, this course provides practical, hands-on knowledge for water-smart gardening in desert environments.

This course is part of the Master Irrigator Program. Participants must complete Irrigation 101 (Will start: April 06) prior to enrolling if they wish to pursue the Master Irrigator certification. To earn the Master Irrigator certification, all three courses must be completed: Irrigation 101, Drip Irrigation and Sprinkler Irrigation.

Registration:
Register once to attend all six sessions. This course includes multiple in-person sessions. People need to attend at least four sessions and complete homework to obtain their certificate. THIS CLASS MEETS TUESDAYS, except May 12.

The first: “New Acquisitions, 2020-2025” will be on display until the end of March 2026, showing a variety of newly acquired materials in a range of topics, ages, and formats. Ranging from artist’s books by university alumnus Emiland Kray to 17th century Judaica to records of the Burrus Student Mine, this exhibit demonstrates that SCUA’s collections really do have something for everyone - students, faculty, staff and community members, alumni and friends.

In the latter half of the Spring 2026 semester, SCUA will open “Sagebrush Scribblers,” an exhibit about the editorial cartoons found in the Sagebrush student newspaper over the decades of its existence. All SCUA exhibits can be found throughout the third floor of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. A list of past exhibits is available on the department website.

Do you have a passion for LEGOs, science and engineering?

Explore with the North Las Vegas 4-H Bluebirds Community Club where youth will take part in fun activities and projects related to science and engineering with LEGOs!

4-H focuses on Positive Youth Development and engaging students in activities that promote teamwork, public speaking, problem solving, fun, and friendship! This series is open to all youth ages 8 to 19 (ages 5 to 8 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian). Join us for any of our sessions, all are welcome and no 4-H experience is necessary.

Club meetings are free but registration is required. Parents and guardians are highly encouraged and welcome to stay during meetings!

Janina Myronova earned her MFA from the Department of Ceramic Art at Lviv National Academy of Fine Arts (Ukraine, 2012), a second MFA from the Department of Ceramics and Glass at The Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts and Design (Poland, 2013), and her PhD from the same institution in 2019. She has completed numerous prestigious international residencies, including the New Taipei Yingge Ceramics Museum (Taiwan), Clayarch Gimhae Museum (South Korea), Lefebvre and Fils (France), the Polish Sculpture Centre (Poland), the International Ceramic Research Center (Denmark), the International Ceramic Studio (Hungary), and the Archie Bray Foundation in Montana—the most competitive and renowned ceramic residency in the United States. Her work is represented in major public collections worldwide, including the Crocker Art Museum (Sacramento), the Porcelain Museum (Latvia), the Mark Rothko Art Center (Latvia), Museu Ceràmica (Spain), the National Museums in Wroclaw and Krakow (Poland), and the New Taipei Yingge Ceramics Museum (Taiwan).

The Early Childhood Workforce Training is offered to early childhood providers for the purpose of meeting the annual Nevada State Early Childhood training requirements. Employees must complete a minimum of 24 hours of training annually to continue employment in a licensed childcare center or home care.

This training is just one of a variety of research-based training topics that are presented by the Workforce development team. All training courses are approved by the Nevada Registry.

The course is offered in person at the University of Nevada, Reno Extension in North Las Vegas. The course consists of readings, lectures and hands-on training from experts in urban horticulture.

Master Gardeners who wish to work with the Hydroponics program must complete this class as part of the requirements for Advanced Certification in Hydroponics.

The first: “New Acquisitions, 2020-2025” will be on display until the end of March 2026, showing a variety of newly acquired materials in a range of topics, ages, and formats. Ranging from artist’s books by university alumnus Emiland Kray to 17th century Judaica to records of the Burrus Student Mine, this exhibit demonstrates that SCUA’s collections really do have something for everyone - students, faculty, staff and community members, alumni and friends.

In the latter half of the Spring 2026 semester, SCUA will open “Sagebrush Scribblers,” an exhibit about the editorial cartoons found in the Sagebrush student newspaper over the decades of its existence. All SCUA exhibits can be found throughout the third floor of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. A list of past exhibits is available on the department website.

Teams of students from Reno area high schools and colleges will have the chance to compete in a 48-hour competition to create, design and present a unique and innovative product.

The event will start at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 24 and all product fabrication will stop at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 26. Final pitches and judging will commence at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Teams will have access to professional makers, problem solvers and mentors to help with the design and prototyping process. At the end of the competition, each team will present their products to a panel of judges and the champion team will be awarded a cash prize of $2,000!

Applications will open on Feb. 6, 2026 and close March 13, 2026. All applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on March 13.

He was born in Daejeon, Korea and adopted as an infant. He lives with his family in Fresno, California and served as Fresno Poet Laureate from 2015-2017. He teaches at Fresno City College and taught for many years in the low-residency MFA program at the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe. He is the 10th California Poet Laureate, and the first Asian American to serve in the role. In April 2025, he became the first California Poet Laureate to be officially reappointed to a second two-year term.

The first: “New Acquisitions, 2020-2025” will be on display until the end of March 2026, showing a variety of newly acquired materials in a range of topics, ages, and formats. Ranging from artist’s books by university alumnus Emiland Kray to 17th century Judaica to records of the Burrus Student Mine, this exhibit demonstrates that SCUA’s collections really do have something for everyone - students, faculty, staff and community members, alumni and friends.

In the latter half of the Spring 2026 semester, SCUA will open “Sagebrush Scribblers,” an exhibit about the editorial cartoons found in the Sagebrush student newspaper over the decades of its existence. All SCUA exhibits can be found throughout the third floor of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. A list of past exhibits is available on the department website.

Each session centers around a themed children’s book and explores topics like developing a sense of self, managing time and stress, creating healthy friendships and setting goals.

Join us for an engaging course focused on the design, installation and management of drip irrigation systems. Whether you are new to irrigation or looking to improve efficiency in your garden, this course provides practical, hands-on knowledge for water-smart gardening in desert environments.

This course is part of the Master Irrigator Program. Participants must complete Irrigation 101 (Will start: April 06) prior to enrolling if they wish to pursue the Master Irrigator certification. To earn the Master Irrigator certification, all three courses must be completed: Irrigation 101, Drip Irrigation and Sprinkler Irrigation.

Registration:
Register once to attend all six sessions. This course includes multiple in-person sessions. People need to attend at least four sessions and complete homework to obtain their certificate. THIS CLASS MEETS TUESDAYS, except May 12.
