9th annual DigiGirlz Camp
Free Technology Camp for High School Girls 14 to 18-years old
Microsoft will host its 9th annual DigiGirlz Camp Thursday, July 19, and Friday, July 20, for high school girls, ages 14 to 18-years old from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the University of Nevada, Reno, College of Business (1664 N. Virginia Street, Reno). This FREE event is dedicated to educating and inspiring young women to learn more about the vast opportunities and career choices available to them in the technology industry, as well as other Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (S.T.E.A.M) fields. During the two-day event, attendees listen to speakers, participate in STEAM based activities and demonstrations, network with one another, and learn through hands-on workshops. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided during the day, along with a chance to win prizes and giveaways.
Topics covered this year include: Robotics; Coding; Cyber Security; College preparation; and ‘Launching your future Tech and STEM career’. Workshop speakers from Tesla, Switch, Intuit, The Discovery, FIRST Nevada, Microsoft and more will present at the camp. Special to this year’s camp, are the keynote motivational speakers, Tiffany Young, Washoe County School District, Equity and Diversity Dept. and Kimberly Thomas, University of Nevada Reno, Dean of Students.
This event is one of Microsoft’s core efforts to invest in STEAM education for women and build a pipeline of future workers ready for the challenges of the global economy. Microsoft employees along with other STEAM based female professionals from around the community such as CustomInk will engage and interact with attendees while serving as volunteers at the event.
