About this Event
View map Free EventThis exhibition of mixed media abstract paintings is inspired by the landscape and culture of the Numu (Northern Paiute) in Nevada. Organic objects, sand, rice papers, acrylic washes and mediums are layered intuitively to create a visual narrative of Paiute life. Willows, tules, cattails and pine nuts are very important staples to the Paiute people. These are sources of food, shelter and everyday tools. Creating as a Native woman, mother and artist, Melero integrates images and cultural organic materials into her artwork from the perspective of her tribe and culture. The exhibition runs from Dec. 4 to Feb. 28, 2015. An opening reception is 5-8 p.m. Dec. 4. Validated parking is available in the garage at First and Sierra streets. Exhibition is open from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday to Saturdays, and by appointment only during Winter Break from Dec. 17, 2014-Jan. 20, 2015.
