Alumni Book Club: Fall Kick-Off Read
Friday, October 6, 2023
About this Event
Expand your horizons and be part of a community that celebrates the joy of reading with the Nevada Alumni Book Club! There is no cost to participate – you just have to get a copy of the book to enjoy. If you haven't signed up you can do so online to join in on the conversation.
Our next read is Life After Life by Kate Atkinson! We can't wait to start reading and discussing this book with you on Friday, August 4th.
Ursula Todd is born and dies during a snowstorm in 1910. She is then born again, and again, and again. How many tries does she have to get her life “right”? In Life After Life, Kate Atkinson takes readers on a captivating journey through both World Wars as she explores what it means to be British, what it means to be family, and what it means for history to take a different course.
Novelist Gillian Flynn says, “Kate Atkinson is a marvel. There aren’t enough breathless adjectives to describe Life After Life: Dazzling, witty, moving, joyful, mournful, profound. Wildly inventive, deeply felt. Hilarious. Humane. Simply put: It’s one of the best novels I’ve read this century.”
Suggested Reading Schedule:
- On August 4th, visit Before the Book in our forum and begin reading Life After Life
- By August 18th, finish reading through page 106 (through “Darkness soon fell again.”)
- By August 25th, finish reading through page 205 (through “Was she not a good person?”)
- By September 1st, finish reading through page 314 (through “…and everything was dark.”)

How it works
The book club will connect through a private online forum where people can discuss the current book and network with each other. The group will spend two months on each book, so you'll have plenty of time to read. To learn more visit our sign-up page.
Why should you join?
There are three main reasons we hope you'll be excited to participate in our book club:
1) Connect with fellow alumni
2) Be a part of a lifelong learning community
3) Reading is good for you!
We hope you’ll join us on the literary adventures that lie ahead!
