Apex Concerts: Four by Four with Calidore Quartet
Apex Concerts continues its seventh season with a captivating “Four by Four” criss-cross of genres, time-periods, locations, and musical intersections, courtesy of the multi-award winning Calidore String Quartet. Four compositions in the hands of four musicians will fill Nightingale Hall with the music of Mozart, Pulitzer-prize winner Caroline Shaw, and finishing off with two of the pillars of string quartet repertoire: 20th century Shostakovich and the perennial Beethoven. Singled out by the New York Times as having “deep reserves of virtuosity and irrepressible dramatic instinct,” the members of the Calidore String Quartet made international headlines as winners of the M-Prize International Chamber Music Competition, the largest prize for chamber music in the world. Also in 2016, the quartet became the first North American ensemble to win the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship and was named BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists an honor that brings with it recordings, international radio broadcasts and appearances in Britain's most prominent venues and festivals.
