Ballot Initiative Forum

The Joe Crowley Student Union is hosting a Ballot Initiative Forum in partnership with the Guinn Center for Policy Priorities and the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law on Wednesday, October 12. The event will be from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Joe Crowley Student Union Theatre, 87 West Stadium Way, Reno 89557. The public forum will present the following ballot initiatives:

1. The Background Check Initiative, which would require an unlicensed person who wishes to sell or transfer a firearm to another person conduct the transfer through a licensed gun dealer who runs a background check on the potential buyer or transferee.

2. The Initiative to Tax and Regulate Marijuana, which would regulate and tax the cultivation and sale of recreational marijuana in Nevada in a manner similar to alcohol.

3. The Energy Choice Initiative, which would prohibit a legal monopoly for electric utility generation and would give Nevada electric utility customers the right to choose their service provider from an open retail market.

4. Washoe County Question 1, which asks Washoe County voters whether to authorize a sales and use tax of 0.54 percent in the county to fund only capital projects in Washoe County School District for the acquisition, construction, repair, and renovation of school facilities.

The forum will be followed by a reception with light refreshments. Free parking is available to the public on the top floor of the West Stadium Parking Garage.
