Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with UNR's Mariachi "Lobos de Plata" student musicians!

Mariachi Lobos de Plata is the University of Nevada's student-led ensemble that keeps the rich tradition of mariachi music alive. This ensemble includes students from all backgrounds and majors and strives to increase the awareness of Nevada's Hispanic Cultural Heritage through public and private performances.

Then experience the outstanding fulldome planetarium show "Tales of the Maya Skies," which immerses viewers in the wonders of Maya science, cosmology and myth.

Journey back in time to the jungles of Mexico and to the cities and temples of the ancient Maya. The beautifully illustrated story reveals how Maya scholars developed a sophisticated understanding of astronomy, architecture, and mathematics that enabled them to predict solstices, solar eclipses, weather patterns and planetary movements, and through this knowledge make sense of the world around them.

"Tales of the Maya Skies" is narrated by Lila Downs, a Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-winning singer and Oscar nominee. She guides viewers through the astronomical achievements and cultural practices of the Maya civilization, explaining their sophisticated understanding of the stars, planets, and natural phenomena through powerful 360-degree imagery and immersive sound.

The planetarium show was produced by the Chabot Space and Science Center with support from the National Science Foundation. Local presentations at the Fleischmann Planetarium are made possible in collaboration with Travel Nevada, which promotes the enjoyment of Nevada's Night Skies, the darkest night skies in all of the continental United States.
