Garlic Braiding - Community Connection at the Desert Farming Initiative
We're very excited and grateful to be joined by Reno Food Systems and Katy Chandler of Be The Change Project this Saturday for a Garlic Harvest and Braiding Workshop! Garlic braiding is a method of stringing heads of garlic together for storage and the braids can be a value-added product for growers.
Participants at this event will each create one braid: first harvesting the garlic, then being taught braiding technique. Braids can be left with DFI or taken home with a suggested donation of $15 to fund fall student positions. (Donation can be cash, check, or made online here).
Roughly every other Saturday morning the Desert Farming Initiative will invite the community to join us on the farm to learn, lend a hand, and connect with the plants and each other. These events will include work parties, workshops, socials, and more! Details will be determined and shared here a week before each event. Stay tuned, and we look forward to seeing you on the farm.
