Diversity Health Series: Focusing Upstream: Race, Class, and the Enduring Struggle for Health Equity

Speaker: John Packham, PhD

Dr. Packham’s presentation examines racial disparities in health status in the U.S., as well as strategies to reduce and eliminate health inequities. Particular attention is devoted to the roles that the racial wealth gap and intergenerational transmission of wealth play in understanding racial disparities in health. The discussion concludes with an assessment of the moral determinants of health and recent calls for a morally guided campaign for better health.

  • Assess and differentiate the influence of race and class in understanding health disparities in the U.S.
