Canceled - Frances Melhop MFA Thesis Exhibition: in the middle of this nowhere

This event has been canceled until further notice.

“in the middle of this nowhere” is Frances Melhop’s solo thesis exhibition in fulfillment of the requirements for the Master of Fine Arts in visual arts at the University of Nevada, Reno. The exhibition explores the duality of physical presence and absence in the embodied and virtual spaces that we inhabit today. It refers to ideas of communication, self-hood and control. This inquiry originates from Melhop’s recollections of the intensity of childhood sensory perception. Watching how such sensory interactions have evolved with photography, screens and virtual spaces that call for more and more of our attention, time, and connection, to the detriment of sleep and physical human interaction.

The gallery is open to the public, and open hours are noon-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday. On Thursday, April 30, Melhop will give an artist talk from 5-6 p.m. (location TBD), with a reception in Student Galleries South afterwards from 6-8 p.m.
