Gavin Hall, Tesla

Machine Learning and Life at Tesla

Gavin Hall leads AI systems development at the Tesla Gigafactory, where research projects focus on the application of machine learning algorithms to optimal control, computer vision, and predictive analytics of infrastructure and manufacturing systems. He has previously worked at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. He received B.S. degrees in Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics from West Virginia University, and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where his research in robotics led to a route planning startup for autonomous delivery and ride-sharing vehicles in Singapore. When not helping robots become much smarter than he is, Gavin loves appreciating the finer things in life: classic country music on a hi-fi setup, surrealist movies, traveling the world for rare imperial stouts, and attempting James Jamerson riffs on bass guitar.
