Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women, with more than 80% of these deaths being preventable. This presentation will delve into the critical role of a historically Black medical institution in combating severe maternal morbidity and mortality inequities. We will spotlight the pioneering efforts of the Center for Maternal Health Equity at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM), showcasing how it is leading the charge toward health justice. Through a multifaceted approach that includes cutting-edge interdisciplinary translational research, inter-professional training, robust community outreach, education, and engagement, impactful policy & advocacy and respectful healthcare, MSM is addressing maternal health inequities head-on. The presentation will also feature groundbreaking projects led by MSM investigators that are making significant strides in the fight to advance maternal health equity to achieve justice.
