Recent research shows that more than 80% of individuals with Autism and 90% of individuals with Down syndrome never learn to ride a two-wheel bicycle. For many families, this milestone of childhood feels out of reach. The iCan Bike Camp, hosted by the Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities (NCED), is changing that reality — one rider at a time.

From March 16–20, 2026, NCED will host its iCan Bike Camp at Green Valley High School in Henderson. The five-day camp helps children, teens, and adults with developmental disabilities learn to ride a traditional two-wheel bicycle using adapted equipment, a proven instructional method, and a team of trained professionals and volunteers.

Bike riding is more than just a recreational skill. It builds confidence, independence, physical health, and social inclusion. It also changes family dynamics when everyone can ride together.

Founded from personal experience, Diana Rovetti, senior project director for NCED, first became involved with iCan Bike after the birth of her son with Down syndrome. After discovering iCan Shine, the national nonprofit organization behind iCan Bike, she brought the program to Nevada in 2013.

The camp operates as a five-day program with riders attending one 75-minute session per day. Up to 40 riders can participate, supported by trained volunteers and instructors. Riders must be at least 8 years old, meet mobility and size requirements, and attend all five days. The cost is $225 per rider, with scholarships available.

Volunteers are essential to the success of the camp. The camp is seeking 60–80 volunteers willing to donate 75 minutes per day for five days. No bike experience is required.

For more information, to volunteer, or to register, contact Diana Rovetti at icanbikeNevada@gmail.com.
