Introduction to Tree Identification: A Seasonal Guide

Many of us can identify a tree during the summer when it has its leaves, either by leaf shape, color or other obvious characteristics, but identifying trees in other seasons can be hard. Its important for industry professionals to know how to identify common trees in our region to know how to maintain them.

In this introductory class to tree identification, you will learn how to ID common trees from fall to spring.

Presentors: Wendy Hanson Mazet, certified arborist and Extension Plant Diagnostician, will teach the 1-hour in-class presentation on basics of tree ID. Rod Haulenbeek, certified arborist, will take you on three walking tours of Mira Loma Park to show you tree ID during fall, winter and spring.

Class Details:

Oct. 9 - Fall Tree ID

  • 12 noon to 1 p.m. - In-Class Presentation
  • 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. - Tree ID Walk at Mira Loma Park

Mar. 11 - Winter Tree ID

  • 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. - Tree ID Walk at Mira Loma Park

May 13 - Spring Tree ID

  • 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. - Tree ID Walk at Mira Loma Park

This class is designed to be a series. Learn the basics in-class, then apply them in the field in a series of three walking tours in fall, winter and spring. Register to attend all three walks and get the in-class presentation for free.

CEUs: The in-class presentation and each walking tour offer 1 ISA CEU each. Attending the entire series has a possible 4 ISA CEUs.
