Let's Talk About Race
Recent events in our community and throughout the nation have centered around the topic of race. Race plays a significant role in our lives, either explicitly or implicitly, yet, for many of us, the word itself, and anything associated with it, is taboo. It’s time for that to change. Refusing to talk about race and racism won’t make them disappear. We need to talk about race, and we need to do it now. As protests and even riots continue throughout our nation and communities, many people are confused. Until recent events, these people were convinced that we had resolved this issue years ago. Well, we didn’t, and we won’t unless we do something different. We’ve tried ignoring it- it didn’t go away. Now, it’s time to address it head-on.
Discussions about race are hard, but they are necessary. This five-discussion series is meant to spark dialogue throughout our campus community. It is intended to be a space for real talk, not just another “diversity meeting,” where we plan another program to address an issue that we never acknowledge exists.
Please join us from the comfort of your home, office, or other safe space as we endeavor to bridge our racial divides with a conversation. Let’s Talk About Race.
