Monday, October 7, 2024 at 9 am to 4:30 pm
About this Event
8050 Paradise Rd #100, Las Vegas, NV 89123
https://www.casatlearning.org/calendar-view/mi-vegas-fall24/530In this introductory workshop, we will cover an introduction to the theory and application of MI. Basic pieces of MI theory such as understanding the humanistic approach, listening carefully and thoughtfully to our clients and gauging how they respond to our interventions are all introductory aspects of MI practice and they can take us on a journey of discovery of our clients and their unique change process. We will focus on the power of, use of, and practice of expressed empathy. We will learn to hear the difference in client language between change talk, sustain talk, and discord. We will practice responding to what we hear using OARS and providing information/advice (five MI interventions). This is not a comprehensive workshop - it's a taste of motivational interviewing with some practical pieces you can take with you to use in your practice regardless of whether you continue to learn MI. We will weave in some fun along the way!
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand two aspects of MI spirit.
2. Identify three MI skills.
3. Apply the skill of expressed empathy in counseling clients.
4. Hear client language for change, sustain, and discord
Understand how to respond to these three kinds of language differently using MI interventions
