The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County is inviting the public to an informational open house on planned improvements for the intersection of N. Virginia Street and N. McCarran. The open house will be held at the Joe Crowley Student Union from 6 to 8 p.m. Parking is available across from Lawlor Events Center.

In order to accommodate growth, widening of the intersection will take place. Additional left turn lanes will be added at three legs of the intersection. The traffic signal will be replaced at the intersection, as well as the signal at N. Virginia and Comstock Drive. A new sidewalk will also parallel Virginia Street from Comstock to McCarran, which increases safety for everyone. Bike lanes will also be added to connect to existing bike lanes. Ramps will be upgraded to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). All these improvements will also enhance safety in the area, which is a high-crash location. Work is expected to begin in spring 2015 with completion projected for autumn. This is an approximately $4 million investment in our community funded by Regional Road Impact Fees.
