About this event
This is a guest lecture program supported by the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.
In this lecture, Chad S.A. Gibbs will draw on material from his new book Survival at Treblinka (2026), which explores how Jewish prisoners planned and executed their August 1943 revoltat the infamous Nazi extermination camp located northeast of Warsaw in occupied Poland. By identifying previously unknown survivors and revisiting existing survivor narratives, this book contributes to our understanding of Jewish survival by considering early forms of resistance and the organization of theuprising. Critical to new interpretations of the revolt in this talk and the book are the actions of women prisoners, who assume a central place in this history for the first time.
This program is made possible through the generosity of the Curt C. and Else Silberman Foundation, supporting programs in higher education that promote, protect, and strengthen Jewish values in democracy, human rights, ethical leadership, and cultural pluralism. Additional support is provided by The Leonard and Sophie Davis Fund and the Miles Lerman Center for the Study of Jewish Resistance Endowment.
