Epistemologies of power from normalistas and indigenous teachers from the global south is a presentation by Professor Raul Olmo Fregoso Bailon that explores the complex relationship between knowledge and power within education in developing countries. The talk focuses on two distinct groups of educators: normalistas, who are trained in traditional teacher-training schools, and indigenous teachers, who bring their own cultural knowledge and traditions to their teaching. The presentation aims to analyze how the educational systems and teaching methods of these groups either challenge or reinforce existing power structures, and how their distinct ways of knowing are influenced by colonialism and global inequalities. Ultimately, it sheds light on the struggle for cognitive justice, which is the recognition and valuation of all knowledge systems, not just those of the dominant global powers.
