"Sagebrush Scribblers: Cartoons in the Student Newspaper," is now display on the third floor of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, outside of the Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) department. The exhibit was curated by SCUA and features editorial cartoons as they are recognized as a powerful form of journalism, compressing sharp observations, deep concerns, and cultural commentary into a few sketched lines. Deceptively simple, they are rich historical documents. Since 1895, the University of Nevada, Reno campus newspaper has included the work of dozens of student and alumni cartoonists, sharing their thoughts on everything from campus traditions to world events. “Sagebrush Scribblers” follows the evolution of the artwork in The Student Record and The Nevada Sagebrush over the course of a century, from sparse, non-editorial illustrations to the development of a full comics page. The exhibit is on display until the end of July 2026.
