To train Community Health Workers (CHWs) and CHW program managers on Medicaid billing practices, documentation, and service delivery standards, with an emphasis on integrating Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Mental Health (MH) triage and ensuring compliance with CMS and Nevada Medicaid regulations.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand CHW responsibilities under Medicaid – including scope of practice, boundaries, and coordination with healthcare teams.
  • Identify billable services and CPT/HCPCS codes – such as 98960–98962 for patient self-management education and Q3014 for telehealth.
  • Implement triage procedures for SUD/MH – applying standardized screening tools, crisis protocols, and referral pathways.
  • Submit Medicaid-compliant claims via EVS – ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and proper documentation for clean claims.
  • Explain and apply Prior Authorization (PA) rules – understanding when PAs are required, what documentation is needed, and how to request renewals.
  • Follow CMS and Nevada Medicaid compliance standards – with an emphasis on fraud prevention, audit readiness, and program oversight.
