Interdisciplinary artist Esy Casey will give an artist lecture at Holman Arts & Media Center (University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe) on Saturday, August 8th at 7pm. This event is free and open to the public!
Esy Casey is an interdisciplinary artist using elements of documentary and expanded cinema to explore invisibilized labor, culture and memory in the landscape. Her film 'A Movement Against the Transparency of the Stars of the Seas' (2023) was nominated for Best Short by The International Documentary Association, screened in competition at IDFA, won Best Short Doc at Mimesis Documentary Festival and is streaming on the Criterion Channel. Her directorial debut, 'Jeepney', was nationally broadcast on PBS in North America. She is the recipient of awards and fellowships from organizations including The New York State Council on the Arts, The Ford Foundation, The Flaherty Seminar, The New York Film Festival, MacDowell, Yaddo, The Center for Asian American Media and The Princess Grace Foundation USA. She has exhibited internationally, including Busan International Video Art Fair (South Korea), Kala Art Institute (California), Field Projects (New York) and The Wassaic Project (New York).
