The Business of Science: A Personal Perspective
The Business of Science: A Personal Perspective
The idea that the discipline of science can and should be integrated in business is one of the cornerstones to this innovative interdisciplinary lecture series. The first speaker in the series is Stephen K. Durham, Corporate Senior Vice President of the $1.13 billion global medical research company, Charles River Laboratories. After decades of business success Durham's philosophy centers on how typical university-based scientific training often misses the mark in preparing future scientists to achieve success beyond the laboratory. Durham’s provocative presentation will compare an academic work environment to the one found in industry, with a special focus on the biopharmaceutical and contract research organizations. He will suggest strategies for applying academic experiences for successful entry into industry while providing personal insights about strategies to employ to meet work place challenges for success in industry.
