Wolf Pack Community Howl: Free Speech and the Inclusive Campus

What is a Community Howl?  It’s a chance for interested faculty, students and staff members to have a deliberative discussion (small group structured conversation with a facilitator) about issues that impact our community.  It is not a debate—we aren’t looking for winning sides or partisan talking points.

We create a dialogue experience that brings varied perspectives together in one place. The process explores the pros and cons around free speech and the inclusive campus and encourages critical thinking to evaluate the possibilities for addressing complex community issues.  We utilize a dialogue guide created specifically for college campuses by the National Issue Forms and NASPA.

We will explore deliberative dialogues through guided facilitation on three options around Free Speech and the Inclusive Campus:

1. Prioritize student safety and well-being,

2. Affirm the educational value of intellectual curiosity and engaging with ideas across difference, and

 3. Uphold the ideals of free speech.
